I think it's possible to like the works of both of these artists.

"Sunflowers"is a long time favorite and they're not weird. Van Gogh's "Starry Night" was on a final I took for an exit requirement class I was FORCED to take in college. I managed to work in the word "schadenfreude" into my answer and would've gotten more than an A+ if it was possible according to the professor. Not bad for a science major.

Wyeth's work is looked down upon by some rather "worldly" critics that believe in a very rigid system of what art should resemble. That world view didn't include farmhouses and dogs. I find some of Wyeth's painting quite haunting, especially the last one of the dog by the riverside. Trying to find its title, I found "almost nothing" instead:

"A dog can never tell you what she knows from the smells of the world, but you know, watching her, that you know almost nothing." -Mary Oliver

I love his work. Loved the tale about the master bedroom and his pup claiming his spot.

Have a great day. ♥

Too much education is attempting to make students fit into the teachers mold. Maybe Wyeth should have cut off his ear.

I really love these art and dogs posts! I am familiar with some of Andrew Wyeth's paintings, but I haven't seen all of these. I love them!

Dogs do make art appreciate easier!!!

Tails Around the Ranch

Beautiful art is clearly in the eyes of the beholder, but I'll admit to liking both Wyeth and Van Gogh. To each his own, eh? 😍

Doesn't sound like a very good art teacher ~ Andrew Wyeth and Van Gogh are awesome in my eyes ~

AWesome! I always liked Wyeth. My mother is a big fan of his father, N.C.

Foley Monster, Pocket, and River Song

I had no idea he painted dogs so often.

One of my favorite artists too. I have a Wyeth print of rowboat that always makes me happy.-even if there is no dog involved. Love the Mary Oliver quote.
