Actually it was the Oshkosh Area Humane Society in Wisconsin.
Normally a dog, a cat and a rat are natural enemies, but Sasha the dog, Jack the cat and Tweaks the rat had formed an unlikely bond living together. When the family had to move and weren't able to take the pets with them, they took them to the Oshkosh Area Humane Society in March.
As the staff separated the animals to give them physical evaluations, Jack the cat, who was slightly deaf, panicked until Sasha the dog was brought back into the room.
It’s common for two cats or two dogs or even a cat and dog to bond, but it is very unusual and super cute for a trio to form strong emotional bonds. They were named the Rat Pack.
The staff was determined to keep them together but finding someone who wanted a rat was not easy.
Finally after several weeks, the Rat Pack found a forever home when someone came in looking for a dog and cat. At first she was reluctant to take home Tweaks but changed her mind when she saw the Rat Pack in action.
Most people are squeamish about rats. Years ago I regularly read a blog about a pet rat. I was surprised to learn how loving, smart, and clean they really are.
