It seems that heat trapping methane is produced when they belch, fart or poop and this is supposed to be a cause for global warming.
The California Air Resources Board is developing the regulations at a cost of many millions. I'm sure there will be generous salaries involved. Regulations might dictate changing the cows' diet (no more bean burritos) and using $4 million methane digesters.
I am not making this up.
Dairy farmers say that this will drive up costs when they are already hurt by drought, low milk prices, rising labor costs and a new law that raises overtime pay for farm workers.
"We think it's very foolish for the state of California to be taking this position," said Rob Vandenheuvel, general manager for the Milk Producers Council. "A single state like California is not going to make a meaningful impact on the climate."
Smaller family dairy farms have been and will continue to go out of business. Large companies will move their operations to states and countries where these regulations don’t exist.
