On his Facebook page former President George W. Bush announced that he and Laura went to the Jan Rees-Jones Animal Care Center in Dallas to thank employees for their work and left with a new family member, Freddy, an Australian shepherd mix. He wrote:
“We already love him, and even our cats Bob and Bernadette are finding Freddy’s charm futile to resist. If you could use a little extra joy in your life, consider adopting a pet from an animal shelter or rescue group.”
The 12-week-old pup was among several found abandoned at a dump site in southern Dallas.
While living in the White House, the Bushes owned two Scottish Terriers who often made the news, Barney and Miss Beasley. Barney died in 2013 and Miss Beasley died in 2014. Both died of lymphoma.
