The black and white cat named Fat Boy probably will need a new name for a while although he looked healthy after his ordeal.
Fourteen-year-old Andrew Perez, the cat’s owner, and his family had asked the fire department and other agencies and tree services for help, but no one came.
According to PG&E spokesman 99 percent of the time cats come down on their own but sometimes after a length of time they make the decision to bring them down.
It’s not a simple thing to climb a power pole and get a cat down. The first thing we have to do is de-energize the line – it’s a 12,000-volt line. The safety of the two guys who went up on the pole, and the crew member on the ground, has to be our first priority every time.
The PG&E workers installed plastic around the base of the pole to keep Fat Boy and other animals from climbing it again.
