Ginger, a most intelligent 2-year-old German Shepherd, broke out of the Apple Valley Animal Shelter in California.
She had been surrendered by her owner when he became homeless. He didn’t want her to have to live in his car so he brought her in, hoping she would find a more suitable home.
Ginger, thinking it was all a big mistake, planned and carried out her escape. She managed to break out of her cage and, as she wandered around the shelter, figured out how to get through three doors not designed for dogs.
In the process she set off motion sensor alarms. Video surveillance showed her progress through the shelter corridors and lobby.
She was found at a place near where she had been living and returned to the shelter where she is up for adoption.
