A few years ago Bic, the pen company, introduced Bic For Her. These were pastel pink and purple pens with jeweled accents.
Apparently the company thought that women could not use non-gender-specific implements and they were clamoring for their own special pens so that they could draw fairies and unicorns and write diary entries, grocery lists and all those little girl and lady things.
Employees of Innocent, a UK based company that makes smoothies and other healthy products, received a box of these Bic For Her pens to celebrate International Women’s Day. The irony wasn't wasted on the staff.
Hilarity (and sarcasm) ensued as staff members went on Facebook to share their joy and appreciation of gender-specific writing implements.
This is right up there with Virginia Slims giving us our own cigarette, baby.
