The Polar Ocean Challenge is taking a two month journey from Bristol, Alaska to Norway, Russia, into the Arctic circle and eventually back to Alaska.
The purpose is to show that due to global warming the Arctic sea ice is shrinking so far in the summer to allow passage through.
There is just one small hiccup in the plan. Currently they are stuck in Murmansk, Russia because there is too much ice blocking the passage.
This isn’t the first global warming voyage to face an icy challenge. In 2013 a research ship became so trapped in ice that the 52 crew members had to be rescued.
