There seem to be a lot of stories lately about police officers shooting dogs, sometimes family pets who seem to pose no threat. There have even been stories of shootings occurring in front of children.
Communities understandably become furious and condemn a whole department for the actions of officers who seem to be trigger happy.
In most cities animal control is under the direction of the police department, but dealing with stray dogs is something most sworn officers would rather avoid.
Then there is John Lyons.
Officer Lyons works the third shift in the Cleveland police department. When he comes across stray dogs, he brings them back to the jail until his shift is over. Then, instead of taking them to a shelter and an unknown fate, he takes them home and makes it his personal mission to find loving homes for them.
Last week he found a sickly pregnant dog and took her home to care for her. The dog has since produced a litter of puppies and the mother, the puppies, and Officer Lyons are all doing well. The story
