In a unanimous decision,
Dogs – 9 Druggies – 0
the Supremes overturned the Florida court, ruling that a signal from a properly trained drug-detecting dog would be enough to establish probable cause for a law enforcement officer to undertake a warrantless search of a vehicle during a roadside stop. The story
And on the lighter side:
In England, Crown Prosecution Service demanded a witness statement from PC Peach, thinking apparently that PC had been a police officer on the scene. A letter was sent to them and several attempts were made to explain that PC Peach was Police Dog Peach who had been at the scene -- but to no avail.
Finally in exasperation the handler sent in this witness statement which was then posted on the wall of the station and on Facebook and pretty much, thanks to the internet, all over the world.
CPS was not amused and has called for an investigation, but when you're the laughing stock of the world, it's probably best to let the matter drop.
