People in Buhler, Kansas
began noticing the little Benji-type dog more than eight years ago. They tried
to get close, but she wanted nothing to do with humans.
Everyone adopted her, D.D. was the best-fed dog in town. She never bothered a thing and that's why she was allowed to stay out there.
She was smart enough to stay on the county side of the road where she wasn’t bothered with leash laws of the town.
But finally she learned to trust one human...

I loved this. It's such a good lesson in how to build trust--8 years is a long time to wait for a dog to accept your attention.
