Keej, a 4-year-year old Belgian Malinois police dog, had just finished a photo shoot when, for reasons known only to Keej, he jumped off the top of the building instead of getting back into the squad car.
“My first thought was, ‘He’s dead.’ I didn’t even have time to say his name. I will never forget him leaping that wall,” said McLean County (Illinois) Deputy Jon Albee.
Albee rushed the five floors down and found Keej strolling into the garage. He had hit the roof and windshield of a Kia but, according to the veterinarian who checked him out, all he suffered were bruises.
Keej was in better shape than the Kia, which was a mess. Tina Bradan, owner of the car, was just grateful that her car had been parked there.
"My car must have been meant to be there for the dog to be safe," she said Wednesday. "This is just a car that can be fixed, but for the dog, this is his life.”
Keej will be off work for a few days before returning to duty…hopefully on ground floors. The county will pay for car repairs.

Wow, how amazing. So glad Keej lived and that the Kia owner was so gracious about it.

Five stories... amazing. I'm glad it worked out for everyone involved. I hope Keej's handler doesn't let him go near anymore heights.

What a story! Talk about being at the right place at the right time. If that Kia wasn't there when the dog fell, I couldn't imagine what would have happened. Good to hear that the dog is 100% okay now. Thank goodness!
