A Golden Poodle award goes Obi. The 3-year-old German Shepherd police dog suffered a fractured skull when thugs threw bricks, bottles, bombs, and whatever they could find at him and his handler, PC Phil Wells, as they patrolled.
In spite of blood pouring from his head, Obi continued for two hours to help police try to contain rioters who were ransacking North London.
A CT scan showed that he had a fractured skull. He is recovering but it will be several months before he can resume duty.
A Golden Poodle award goes to Hawkeye the Labrador Retriever who kept vigil under the coffin of his owner, Jon Tumilson, a Navy SEAL from Iowa who had died in a helicopter crash in Afghanistan.
Dogs know. Dogs mourn.
A Lizard Brain award goes to Senator Kevin De Leon and the California senate. In the face of massive state problems, they courageously decreed that only fitted sheets were to be used as the under sheet on all hotel and motel beds, costing $million$. Supposed to be a safety issue even though there is NO evidence fitted sheets are safer to use.
A Neanderthal award goes to the breeders of the modern German Shepherd show dog. They have managed to turn a magnificent working breed animal into a half dog, half frog with their ridiculously cruel breed standards.

Some excellent choices. But I pray for the day when you you'll have to really struggle to find recipients of the Neanderthal award. Will it ever happen?

Excellent choices for your awards!
We had read about Obi - an amazing dog and we hope he heals quickly and is able to resume work!

Yup, the fitted sheets deal was "fitting" of that award. You did good I'd have to agree with all of them! :)

Those awards are pure genius!

In the "dogs know-dogs mourn department" I heard of this dog in Scotland called Greyfriar Bobby that supposedly kept a vigil at his master's grave for a dozen years or better.

Two very touching German Shepherd posts and, of course, the one with Hawkeye. The Neanderthal and Lizard Brain posts deserve all the opprobrium they receive.
