New feature. Inspired by the Academy Awards I am going to be awarding a Golden Poodle each month to the Noteworthy Dog and Noteworthy Human for each month.
The recipients could be worthy of note in a good way or in a bad way. No acceptance speeches will be allowed.
The noteworthy Dog for February is Beatha Lee, a Wheaton Terrier who was elected president of a homeowners’ association in Virginia. Perhaps she will modify some bad human behavior.
Then president, Mark Richards, could not run again because of term limits. When none of the residents would accept this volunteer position because they were “too busy,” he put his dog up as the only candidate. Without realizing she was a dog, the residents elected her and then went on to the important business of eating ice cream and watching the entertainment.
Hopefully the residents will be embarrassed enough to accept civic responsibility in the future. Beatha Lee meanwhile is carrying on her duties by delegating responsibilities as good executives should do.
The Noteworthy Human for February has to be Stacey Champion. Not because she tried to mail her dog from Minnesota to Georgia and not because she lied about what was in the box, but because after she was caught, she continued to put herself in the news for the next many days by—
- wanting her postage back
- wanting her dog back
- wanting her box back
- wanting a small amount of money attached to the dog's collar back
Sometimes it is better to let sleeping dogs lie, as they say.

Have the cutoff music on standby for Ms. Champion. I have a feeling her acceptance speech is going to run over.

I'll pay for postage if we can ship Ms. Champion off somewhere and if we use the same box that she used on her dog.

Golden Poodle is a great idea!
we are still mad at that dumb lady who tried to mail the dog! we have just never heard of anything so ridiculous.
the dog who is in charge of the homeowners association will probably do a great job. there is also a dog who is mayor of his town - you probably know about that too, right?
we are the kings of our yard. i wonder if that counts for anything.

Stacey Champion will live on in the annals of champion idiots. Outdoing her actions next month won't be easy.
Beatha Lea can't do more damage than some of the pols currently in office.

Two well-deserved awards, although the one for the dog-mailing lady ought to be made out of something other than gold!

Fudge would very much like to run for office. Tess just likes to run.
We like your idea and look forward to seeing the winners and losers each month.

If I were forced to belong to a homeowner's association, I would be delighted to vote for a dog. Dogs wouldn't care what color you painted your house because it all looks gray to them.
