We love clever marketing in dog shelters so we love this story with fairy tale qualities from the New York Daily News about the BARC shelter in Williamsburg, NY.
Archie and Edith, two tiny 12-year-old mixed breed dogs, had been together since puppyhood. They were surrendered to the shelter last year when their owner went into a nursing home.
People had expressed interest in adopting one or the other, but the shelter workers thought it would be wrong to separate them. Then as if losing their owner and familiar surroundings wasn’t bad enough, someone kidnapped Edith from the shelter.
Archie was devastated. He wouldn’t eat or sleep.
Normally a dognapping at a shelter wouldn’t be a priority to law enforcement, but the thief was caught on surveillance tape walking away with Edith under her coat. Hearing of Archie’s distress, detectives were able to bring the thief to justice within four days and return Edith to the shelter.
To celebrate the reunion, the shelter workers put on a civil wedding ceremony conducted by a minister, according to Vinny Spinola, Shelter Director.
OK, I know what some of you are thinking. A silly dog wedding. But here’s the thing: it was somehow a fundraiser, and $1500 was raised to purchase dog beds.
The story doesn’t say, but I assume guests were charged to attend the event instead of having to bring a toaster or something. The wedding angle also got their story into the newspaper and on the internet with a color picture of two cute little dogs who need a home together. Does anyone doubt they will find a home?
Because of clever marketing with a true fairy tale ending, no doubt they will live happily ever after.
Complete story including an explanation of animal bonding.
Chihuahua wins pet-celebrity look-alike contest dressed as Donald Trump
In other breaking news also from the New York Daily News, a Chihuahua named Bandit Rubio has trumped the competition dressed as Donald Trump.
Appearing in a custom-made pinstripe suit, red tie and what might possibly be a brown toupee comb over, Bandit appeared before the judges as his owner, Anthony Rubio, tried to intimidate them with “You’re fired.”

Thank God for Law and Order Special Puppet Unit. Seriously, a great story, and so happy they were united. Hopefully they will find a good home soon. I am going to link this to my Facebook account. Lots of good dog folk there

haha on the Donald look alike.
why would anyone dognap a dog from an animal shelter - why not just adopt the dogs? well, at least they got the pup back and now they're married and can't be separated (i hope). that's a cute idea for a fun raiser. we're all for it!

Wow, that's a great fundraising idea! :)
Haha ... Chihuahuas have always intrigued me, I think it's because they're so teeny, tiny and I've always been surrounded by big dogs.

Dogs are the best at showing people the ability to bond without expectations!
Glad these two dogs are together again.
Makes one realize, it is every day we should appreciate who we have in our life.
Wag!

I am interested in dog-to-dog bonding. My poodles were not raised together, were united as adults, and now will not sleep separately. They sometimes fight over food. It always ends with the male, Fluffy, standing over the female, Daisy, who lies submissively on her back. The fight ends and they go back to following me in tandem from room to room.

I'm glad Archie and Edith are reunited. I'm sure once their story gets out, some good soul will adopt them both.
As far as Bandit Rubio goes, I think it was a great idea for a costume.
