Michael Dupree is serving a 12 year sentence for burglary and cocaine possession. In 2007 he broke into a van and stole a bicycle locked inside. As he was peddling merrily down the street, the owner, Anthony McKoy spotted him.
According to Dupree “McKoy and two others pointed a gun at him, handcuffed him and placed a knee painfully in his back” as they made a citizen’s arrest.
Dupree seeks $500,000 for disabilities and distress.
This reminds us of a story we posted several years ago about a drug dealer in Athens, Ohio. Wayne Green, a convicted drug dealer, sued the sheriff’s department and their narcotics dog Andi for $450,000 in damages for illegal search of his furniture business where Andi found 50 pounds of marijuana.
Andi signed his subpoena with a paw print.
What both stories have in common is that no lawyer was involved. Both convicts filed the suit on their own. Does this revive your confidence in the legal profession? Somewhat? Maybe?

It sure doesn't revive my confidence in the legal system!

Hmmm....maybe not, but at least those who choose this foolish course often lose quite badly!

I hope Andi countersued for the right to bite that guy on the butt.
