Lucy, a 4-year-old mixed breed, was paralyzed as a puppy in a car accident, but that hasn’t kept her from being an active, happy dog.
On August 18 she climbed the 2290 foot peak to the top of Mt. Washington, becoming the first paralyzed dog to make the climb.
Nothing stops Lucy. She goes up and down steps, goes for walks and runs using a Walkin’ Wheels wheelchair developed by Handicapped Pets of Nashua, New Hampshire.
"I think many people underestimate handicapped pets and don't realize just how much they can do given proper care and training," explained owner Courtney Dunning of Peterborough, New Hampshire. The story

What a lovely story - Murray really enjoyed reading about Lucy. Last year we took the train to the top of Mount Washington so to hear that a disabled dog had actually climbed up to the top was fantastic.

I think pets probably don't realised they are disabled so they just carry on as normal. If you don't think that you can't do it then you probably can do it

This dog is truly amazing. Her owner says she has high energy and I can believe it. I know if I had to use a walker or some such, the last thing I would want to do is climb with it. Wow...what an inspiration Lucy is for all of us.

I had an old dog who needed this for few months.
He was very happy to be active.

Way to go Lucy!! I do believe that handicapped animals often do well if given the chance, largely related to their ability to live in the moment and not let self pity weigh them down.

Although I admire this dog's accomplishment, if it was the Mt. Washington in New Hampshire that I survived it was 6,288 feet to the top.
Honestly, I still shudder when I think about THAT drive.
