Kids love to watch their favorite movies over and over. The Air Bud series is essentially the same movie over and over with different sports. This makes it a favorite of kids, but there is enough added to this movie to hold the interest of adults.
…specifically, five of the cutest Golden Retriever puppies scampering across the screen, fathered by Buddy (who has obviously not been…uh, tutored.) He meets the love of his life and sneaks off for regular trysts. (Leash laws don’t apply to Buddy.)
In this movie, Josh, Buddy’s teenage owner, joins the soccer team when he gets a crush on the lovely Emma. Of course Buddy the Golden Retriever sports phenom joins right in.
Buddy flies down the field in his cute little outfit, scoring goal after goal with headers and nosers.
A rival coach tries to get Buddy disqualified even though he has lettered in pretty much every other sport. Good sportsmanship wins out and Buddy is again allowed to play.
And, of course, no dog movie is complete without evil, incompetent villains who kidnap the adorable puppies. But no villains can compete with kids and a pound full of released dogs bent on rescuing the puppies. As usual Buddy and the kids rescue the puppies just in time to race to the big game.
But wait, there’s more. A few weeks later when the goalie goes out at the World Cup, Buddy steps in and…well, why spoil the ending.
My grandson and fellow movie critic, Damon, loved Air Bud. He gave it a solid “B” because he wanted to see “more dogs, less people, more puppy time.”
Air Bud—World Pup Special Edition DVD is now on sale. It includes bonus features starring Buddy’s puppies and a limited edition sports bag. This DVD was provided to me by Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment for review.

I can't argue with "more dogs, less people".
