Buddy the German Shepherd received a hero award yesterday at a special ceremony for guiding Alaska State Troopers through the back roads to a fire at his owners’ workshop.
His remarkable feat was caught on a patrol car dashcam video.
Owner Ben Heinrich, 23, has had Buddy since he was six weeks old. "He's saved my life more than once," said Heinrich. "He's chased off a couple of bears for me. He's my hero. If it wasn't for him, we would have lost our house."Buddy is an untrained dog who for some reason recognized the severity of the situation and acted valiantly in getting help for his family," Col. Audie Holloway, head of the troopers, said Friday at a ceremony for the 5-year-old dog, who stood quietly before an adoring crowd.
At the ceremony he received a stainless steel bowl engraved with words of appreciation as well as a rawhide bone. If you haven’t seen the video and even if you have, it's still hard to believe what we are watching.
Notice how he looks back a few times to make sure the troopers are following.

I saw this video a couple of days ago, and wondered if you had seen it...it's awesome, isn't it? What a dog...I couldn't believe what I was seeing, at first.
A wonderful story!
