To my friends and readers in Canada,
What a magnificent show you put on for the world. For that brief time we could come together and see the best the world has to offer.
We are again reminded how lucky we are to have neighbors like you.
There were times during the games when those of us in the lower 48 were secretly rooting for that Maple Leaf team. We don’t call it lack of patriotism, we call it Olympic Spirit.
Hockey is not part of my athletic culture, but every four years I regret that it wasn’t.
Through several Winter Olympics I’ve gone from making fun of curling, to becoming quite involved in watching it…although I haven’t quite mastered the rules and strategies.
As exciting as it was in the opening ceremonies to watch the USA and Canada make their entrance, the most touching part of any Olympics to me is when a country that we’ve never heard of makes an entrance with three, two, or even one athlete with the flag held proudly.
We have heard that the pricks officials from the IOC are going to reprimand the Canadian women’s hockey team for their celebration. We look forward to the tar and feathering which would follow.

Well said. The hockey game was a great finish to an excellent Olympics and it was nice to see the US and Canada set records in overall medals and gold.
I also just stumbled upon your blog and wanted to say well done, you have a great site.

I was amazed as how involved I became, since I am not much of a sports fan, but wow...this Winter Olympics had me riveted to the TV. And yes, Jan, even I watched curling, lol normally something I would not do! It was truly fabulous to see how the Olympics contributed to how strongly the people in Canada came together...amazing and heartwarming. We're not normally like that!
And the hockey game...oh my goodness!

We didn't watch the opening ceremonies.....we told each other we weren't very interested in the Olympics this year.....yup, we are old fogies. Well, I recorded the games every night on East coast time and we sat mesmerized every single night yelling YAY!!! and cursing the judges. What are we gonna do now? Watch the return of Jay Leno? A larger L&O? Prospects looking pretty dim at the moment for nighttime TV.

I didn't catch the Olympics this time and your post made me almost sorry that I missed it. Still have a bad taste in my mouth from the ChiCom games. I think my aversion will pass in time.
RE: the Canadian hockey girls, I say leave them alone. Go pick on the more serious abuses to which you turn a convenient blind eye.

If it's any consolation, Shaun White was the most amazing athlete of the entire Games. But as a Canadian, I have to confess that the Olympics have hockey and then the other stuff. And who are we kidding? Try and find a Canadian who doesn't drink beer. The cigars may have been a bit of a stretch though.

I was very happy for Canada to win Gold at the last event of the Olympics!!!I was rooting for the USA but in the end I was thrilled Canada won as this is such a sports near and dear to them. It was so much fun to watch and what a fabulous game. We all put too much focus on who wins as we quickly lose sight of the fun of competition!!!

What a wonderful two weeks. I think the people of BC did an excellent job and put on a great show! If the only thing that the IOC can complain about is a bunch of Cdn women drinking beer...well...puhleese. (What a group of whiners!) Sheesh...

We loved watching the final last night - so exciting!

I'm hoping that the woman's hockey team won't be reprimanded. It's such a BS double standard! Nobody said boo when John Montgomery strolled thru Whistler Village publicly consuming alcohol. Public consumption of alcohol is a misdemeanor crime. The girls were just having a private celebratory moment with nobody around.
the game was awesome, wasn't it? Myself and apparently 80% of Canadians were glued to the TV for 3 hours, it was such a nail biter!!
