This isn’t the kind of story I normally write about, but I’ve been wanting to use this graphic for a long time.
A 53-year old man was hunting with a partner near Los Banos, California on Saturday. They decided to call it a day, so he got out of his hunting blind, set down his shotgun and went to retrieve some decoys about 15 yards away.
About that time his dog stepped on her owner’s loaded shotgun. The safety disengaged and the weapon fired, hitting him on the left side of his back. The man was treated and released from the hospital.
The name of the man and the name and age of the dog have not been released. Well, would you want anyone to know if you were the man—or the dog?
Safe to say the dog had not taken a gun safety course.

This would be the ultimate "make it look like an accident" hit, if you could pull it off.

He's lucky it was a shotgun and not a rifle with a more potent load.

why would they need to know the age of the dog?...does he get less time if he's a young dog?

Uh, not too bright. But humans are forgetful! We have a good example in our Jan.

Dog: When you feed me tinned food all the time, it's time for ME to step on this hot metal thing that goes 'bang'!

What a lucky, or unlucky, man. I guess it depends on how you look at it.

I hope he realizes to be more careful with where he's putting a loaded shutgun next time... jeez!

Yikes... I am simply not a fan of firearms. Thank goodness man and dog are both living to tell the tale.

My dogs sometimes accidentally open the windows of the car by stepping on the control buttons. It's worrisome. But from now on, I will tell myself it could be worse.

This happens fairly often, stories appear a few times a year here in the Midwest.
Hunters need to take care that a loaded gun, even with the safety on, is not in a place where a loose dog can get to it.
This was not the dog's fault.

The first time I heard this story, I thought that it was fake!!
I am a hunter and I NEVER turn my back on a loaded gun OR leave a loaded gun unattended. It's just not a good idea as indicated by this story.

This should remind us that poodles were first used as hunting dogs in their country of origin (France). And if you want a puppy from there, here is the list of current litters:
