Not content to kill thousands of pets or harass Lowe’s for selling mousetraps, PETA is suing the Friends of Animals animal advocacy organization's primate sanctuary, Primarily Primates (PPI), according to the President of Friends of Animals.
Why would an animal rights organization sue another animal rights organization, especially one that provides a sanctuary that depends on public donations? No one is quite clear about this.
With a $30 million operating budget, PETA apparently thinks they have the money to do anything they want. What is clear is that Friends of Animals and PPI, like most other animal sanctuaries, do not have the money for frivolous lawsuits. This is not the first lawsuit PETA has brought against them. The others were dismissed, but not without costly legal expenses.
PETA’s latest attempt at shutting PPI down alleges that PPI is in violation of the “dangerous wild animals” statute. The suit asks the Court to force PPI to get rid of all of its “dangerous wild animals,” including its chimpanzees, African lion, and baboons. However, the “dangerous wild animals” statute does not apply to animal shelters such as PPI. Although PETA’s own recruitee, Mr. Hensley, admits PPI is an animal shelter, his attorneys, who are being funded by PETA, insist that PPI is NOT an animal shelter.
Can you say “convoluted”? And what is PPI supposed to do with the primates PETA wants them to release? Turn them over to PETA and their walk-in freezers? Shouldn’t donations to animal organizations be spent on the animals and not in the court room?
According to the President of Friends of Animals:
It is not clear whether PETA’s motivation is personal vendetta, greed, or a movement to shut down all animal sanctuaries, but this latest assault against PPI threatens every animal sanctuary in the state of Texas. As a $30 million per year organization, PETA can afford to file all the frivolous lawsuits it wants, hire as many lawyers as it wants, and make all of the frivolous arguments it wants. However, PETA is hard-pressed to explain how this lawsuit helps any of the animals in PPI’s care. We are asking for your help to stop it.

I hate to be the first one leaving a comment.....How, please tell me how PETA gets the money it does and why, oh why, do they do this miserable stuff. Sad, that there are such aimless, mindless people in the world...AKA asses......

My guess is that people who donate think that they are helping animals. PETA is basically a propaganda organization with an uncanny ability to get publicity in the mainstream media. MSM treats them like lovable kooks with good intentions. You seldom read a negative story about them except on the internet. Oh, and Hollywood loves PETA.
I'm puzzled too about how they can continue to be supported in such a luxurious manner.

In these times when people have cut back on donations Peta spends not only its own money, but forces others to spend money needed for the animals to fight the lawsuits. I can’t comprehend this. I hope their donors realize how hateful they are.

"...people who donate think that they are helping animals. PETA is basically a propaganda organization..." This is all true. Why doesn't someone pursue them with a false advertising lawsuit? Costs money I know but there are a lot of dog (pet) lovers. If every dog owner would send me just one measly dollar I would sue PETA. Hehehe Okay! Will someone do it? Sue them, I mean.

I'm sure this is totally a coincidence but there was a recent pet chimp attack that made huge waves in the MSM. Not that PETA woyld try to cash in on someone else's misery to promote their own agenda mind you. Just sayin'.

It is so sad to me that we can't all work together for such a great cause as helping defenseless animals. Greed and power is a very destructive force....one has to look no further than our governement to see it in action.

PETA scares me.

I don't expect anything logical or in some way resembling common sense to spring from the PETA people. They are loony and have way too much disposable income.

Yes, I can say "convoluted." I can also say "A**HOLES," but I won't because this is a polite blog and the comment would be deleted. But I'm THINKING it. About PETA, I mean.
Sorry. I don't usually get like that but your post brought it out of me. ** Hmmph! **

PPI should get on the offensive, and sue PETA for filing frivolous lawsuits!..There are statutes against that as well.
I mean,as long as PPI is being forced to spend money in court, they might as well be the ones swinging the hammer.

Thanks for posting this to let us know what PETA is doing.

So I went to the PETA website, Lord help me, and under their "Why We Euthanize" article, I submitted a comment that basically stated, "Why if you're so concerned about the animals you picture here, are you taking funds away from other Animal Rights Organizations, like PPI by suing them?"
Needless to say, my comment was not, and probably will not be approved by the moderator, go figure.
PETA, scares me, they've long been too big for their britches.

I don't support a lot of the things PETA does but I do love animals and know that a couple of years ago PPI was acussed by the Texas Attorney General of animal mistreatment and financial impropriety (conditions described on the grounds included "rivers" of excrement and piles of animal corpses)
The AG dropped the suit when PPI reorganized but the respected sanctuaries who were given custody of the animals filed suit to prevent them being returned becasue there was no evidence the previous problems were fixed
If you blindly attack the HSUS and PETA, you're no better than what you claim they are

HSUS doesn’t even endorse the supposedly humane animal-rearing practices it spends millions lobbying to enact into law. In March 2008, a company called Eggology issued a press release boasting that it was the “First Egg Products Brand … Endorsed by The Humane Society of the United States.” Within a matter of hours, however, Eggology had to issue a press release retracting its claim that it was backed by HSUS. If there is anyone in the agriculture industry still operating under the illusion that the radical vegans at HSUS like Pacelle can be placated by supposedly humane meat-production, this should put to rest that notion.
