The Idiotarod has become a tradition in many American cities for the past few years as a precursor to the Iditarod.
Let’s make it clear that dogs have nothing to do with it. It’s a shopping cart race with human racers.
Five self-proclaimed “idiots” tie themselves to an often quite modified grocery shopping cart and run an established course through the metropolitan area.
The racing team usually dresses in costumes with a themed cart.
Although the race is for fun, it is, of course, competitive.
Every team wants to win at all costs. They are, after all, humans and definitely not above sabotaging the competition, including putting obstacles in the way, tripping, or giving false information about the race course.
In this year’s New York City Idiotarod, twenty teams ran the grueling 5 mile course. I did mention that actual dogs never take part in these, hence the name.
Truthfully though if they had one in my city, I would want to be part of it.
More pictures than you will want to see unless you were a racer.

You lot are bonkers! Seriously though there are similar daft things in the UK where I used to live. People make their own planes, run with them and jump off a pier. They never get more than a few feet!

I LOVE the Idiotarod! And the weather never fails to cooperate by being the coldest, windiest and iciest.

It never ceases to amaze me what we humans do in the name of fun....I am living through my dogs having Kennel Cough...even though I vaccinated them I guess there are soooo many strains...hard to vaccinate for all. Seems like is should not be a problem but I do have a 14 y/o and an 8 month old...hope it goes ok and they have given me a "cough syrup" for them.

I'd have to have a grocery cart with a keg of beer in it, if I was gonna attempt to be that crazy!
