Dogs on Wheels: Two UK dogs get new life
Three-year-old Rottweiler Mollie had been so badly abused that she had lost the use of her back legs when she was rescued by the RSPCA.
Fundraisers got her a set of wheels and that has changed Mollie’s life. She now has a new home in Silverton with Janet Rice, her husband and another Rottweiler.
"It's given her 100% more freedom than she had," said Mrs. Rice. "She couldn't go out and exert some energy, it gives her the freedom to go where she wants, when she wants."
Max the police dog
Max’s story is a little different. Max is a former police drug sniffing dog. The 10-year-old Springer Spaniel started to develop arthritis and hip dysplasia two years ago and it was feared that he would have to be put down. After putting so many criminals away, the sense was that something was owned to Max in his retirement years.
Fortunately a police charity set up to help retired police dogs, paid for the two-wheeled chariot that takes the rear weight and allows him to get around. The wheels have given him a great retirement, according to his owners.
If you wonder about the quality of life of dogs on wheels, you can read more about Max and see how happy he is in this short video as he romps through the countryside.

That is so wonderful of them to get him wheels after all the great work he had done in his life..

I wish they would have had those wheelies for dogs years ago when we had a dog who could have used one. So many special dogs can benefit from them, it's good to know that there are so many caring people in the world to help Mollie and Max and others like them.

Dog carts are great. We had one for our old lab and he loved to walk all over the farm with it.

A veterinarian in my hometown had a dog in her clinic - Frankie - who was in a cart. He was the funniest little dog. He got around amazingly well! He was fast too! It was fun to see him zipping all over the clinic!

Dax, our beloved German Shepherd had to be put down at 7 years old because of hip dysplasia. I wish we had had the time to explore this type of therapy for her, but by the time we realized what was going on, she was unable to move her bowels. She was so stoic, we didn't know there was a problem until it was too late. :-(
