Some dogs are finicky eaters. Some, it seems, will swallow anything not bolted down. Puppies especially like eating new things, but some older dogs also seem to enjoy strange entrées.
All of these dogs lived to bark about it, but the endings are not always happy.
If you suspect your dog has swallowed something dangerous, it is important to get veterinary help as soon as possible.
Chester, a puppy in Bangor, Maine ate six pounds of rocks. He was attracted to the food drippings around the new grill and started munching away. When his owners realized what he had done, they rushed him to the veterinarian. His chances of surviving were not great, but he managed to pass them all out naturally.
And that is all I really want to know about that story.
The most expensive:
In South Africa, Nero, a twelve-year-old Great Dane-Doberman cross, ate a Nokia cell phone. He was being fed by the owner’s daughter who apparently wasn’t fast enough so he grabbed the phone out of her hand and swallowed it whole. He was rushed to the veterinarian, but not surprisingly the phone was too large to pass out naturally. Nero had to have surgery with a large incision and ten stitches. After very expensive surgery, Nero survived but the cell phone
had to be put down.
The funniest:
Ozzie, a seven-month-old Staffordshire Terrier, was play fighting with another dog over a bath toy when Oscar decided to swallow it rather than losing the fight. When he showed signs of stomach distress, he was rushed to the veterinarian. To the amusement of the staff, an x-ray revealed the outline of the rubber duck in his stomach.
The weirdest: Five-year-old Black Labrador, Oscar, loved making the rounds of a golf course with his owner. When the owner noticed a rattling sound coming from Oscar’s stomach, he took him to the veterinarian where they found 13 golf balls each weighing 45 grams lodged in his stomach.
And the scariest: Four-month-old Staffordshire Bull Terrier puppy, Summer June, was taken to the veterinarian after repeatedly vomiting. An X-ray showed a rubber suction pad. In surgery the veterinarian discovered that the pad was attached to a ten-inch wooden arrow, between a third and half the length of the dog. By some miracle the arrow had not perforated her stomach.
OK, this is my last post on stuff dogs swallow.

Once while working in a vets office we had a young couple come rushing in with their 4 month old mix puppy. They were frantic because the puppy was in the process of passing something they had no clue what it was. Turned out to be a q-tip bent in half.

We thought my friend's dane had swallowed a golf ball, took her to the vet and everything. Turns out the ball had just rolled behind a cabinet. Ooops.

Unfortunately, the list continues for Clancy and what he has eaten. Finally, our vet told me about hydrogen peroxide...2 Tablespoons will make them puke if you can get them to drink it. I thought Clancy had eaten a glass ball...so we make him drink the peroxide and 10 minutes later....he puked....imagine my surprise that he had a sock that came up...no ball.....we found it later outside.....yep, almost as much fun as pulling items out of his rear that have gotten stuck....and so far...he hasn't killed himself yet....I will be the first to assure you, had he been my first lab, he would have been my last and would not have lasted very long in my house!
