Fifteen speedy Chihuahuas from all over the country will race for the title of “America’s Fastest Chihuahua” in the Fourth Annual Petco Unleashed National Chihuahua races this Sunday at Petco Park in San Diego between innings of a San Diego Padres game.
The 15 finalists represent Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, New York City, Anaheim, Orlando, Phoenix, Sacramento, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle and Washington D.C. Maddy from New York City is the current champion from last year’s race.
The winner gets a trophy, a one-year supply of dog food and a $300 PETCO gift card. Besides raising awareness of the tiny, fearless breed, Petco has teamed up with the Chihuahua Rescue & Transport to create hundreds of Chihuahua adoption opportunities across the country.
Off track betting will probably not be encouraged.
UPDATE: Tiger, a 10-pound Chihuahua from Bakersfield, Calif., took the top spot and the title, running the 35-foot course in 1.9 seconds in the Fourth Annual Petco Unleashed National Chihuahua race Sunday, Aug. 31 in San Diego. Defending champion Maddie, came in fifth.
