For Moon, a two-year-old Siberian Husky, the Call of the Wild must not have been as promising as she thought it would be when she set out on her doggy adventure.
Owner Doug Dashiell of Ely, Nevada had taken his three dogs on a weekend trip when Moon escaped at a rest stop on April 6. After searching for several hours and notifying local authorities, he gave up and went home.
Eight days later his veterinarian clinic called on to tell him Moon was back in town. She had been found by a local resident who called them because she was wearing a clinic tag.
Her 77-mile trip home had taken her across Nevada's high desert and two mountain ranges.
Moon was in good physical shape, prompting Dashiell to think that she may have dined on rabbits during her journey.
Oh, and there was strong evidence that she had had an encounter with a skunk who had sprayed her somewhere along the way.

People may think of their pets like children, but they are often smarter than we are.

Better than 8 miles a day!..
Those Huskies are are sturdy lot.

Of course the husky found the skunk! What self-respecting husky would go on such an adventure and NOT get sprayed by a skunk, just to prove that good times had been had all around? Even in the middle of the city, they manage to find and get sprayed by skunks... It's great that she found her way home. What a relief for her and her owners?

I love to hear stories where pets have miraculously found their way home. At the same time.. it is a gentle reminder to tag or chip our pets.

Of course she got sprayed by a skunk. I'm sure she also found all sorts of really great things to roll in too before all was said and done. I'm delighted she found her way home, but like Coll said, you really should make sure your pet has a tag.

I love stories like that. One of my greatest fears is losing one of my dogs.

Nice story to find. Someone already commented that we think of pets as our kids and that we're smarter. I am here to tell you if I ever got lost in the mountains I'd want that dog Moon's help getting home.
