This story could easily have ended very tragically.
If you’ve ever been around a toddler, you know they have no fear. They want to explore the world around them and they don’t yet understand danger. They must have a guardian angel. Or in this case a guardian dog.
Twenty-three-month old Phillip Redmond Jr. of Philadelphia climbed out of a broken window onto a second story porch roof of his row house and was having a really good time scampering across eight narrow adjoining porch roofs.
Neighbors became aware of the situation when they heard the family German Shepherd, Alfie, barking.
One neighbor reported that Alfie was following the baby, protecting him to make sure he was all right. Meanwhile his barking was attracting attention.
Finally a neighbor, Shavyonn Robinson, a few doors down was able to rescue the child. She tried to grab him from her window, but, of course, the child thought they were playing tag and almost fell off the roof. Finally Robinson had to go out on the roof to get him.
Police questioned the parents, but no charges have been filed.

What's the old expression? "God watches out for fools and children." God's hand was certainly at work with this little fellow.

Isn't it amazing how they seem to sense danger to ones they love and know what to do.

Who says that dogs are dumb animals? Too many examples dispute that claim. Although I've had one or two that were truly dumb.
I'm glad Alfie is such a smart dog.
